MATI Mission

MATI PARTNERSHIP

MATI has three main types of partnerships:

  • Organization Partnerships
  • Funding Partnerships
  • Volunteer Partnerships

Organization Partnerships
In the first five years, MATI has created program activities primarily with Portland Public Schools and most specifically at Harriet Tubman Middle School. Tubman closed in the spring of 2007 and reopened in the fall as a Young Women’s Academy. Other partners have been Caldera, Operation Easy, Kenton Action Plan and Youth Arts Consortium. In summer 2007, MATI began a partnership with the Moore Street Community Center, a facility owned and operated by the Salvation Army in N. Portland. MATI works with a variety of other community partners connected with the Mending Holes Project, an effort to help high school students, mostly from Jefferson and Roosevelt High Schools recapture missing academic credits. This has been a summer program but is expanding to a full year program in the fall. MATI spend a year planning with administrative staff at Open Meadow Middle School (OMMS) to create media literacy classes during the school day and after school at this alternative school that serves children who have had difficulty making the public school system work for them. Classes in animation, photography and the creation of a school newspaper are taking place during the 2008-09 school year.

Funding Partnerships
MATI’s service to children and teachers is totally dependent on the financial contributions of our caring partners. MATI’s donations come from Foundations, Government entities, Businesses and individuals. Some of our partners include:

  • Meyer Memorial Trust
  • PCC Gear UP
  • James F. and Marion L. Miller Foundation
  • Regional Arts & Culture Council
  • Caring individuals

Volunteer Partnerships
Volunteers are at the heart of MATI’s capability and program activities. Volunteers help in every aspect of the program including Board management, educational support, mentoring, tutoring and provide significant donations of both time and money.
